Kuhl Calls on Constituents to Send Speaker Pelosi Their Gas Receipts

U.S. Representative John R. "Randy" Kuhl, Jr. (R-Hammondsport) today issued the following statement calling on residents of the 29th Congressional District to call or mail Speaker Pelosi their gas receipts.

"Poll after poll has shown that a majority of Americans support the ‘all-of-the-above' energy agenda I introduced. They support an energy agenda that increases the production and supply of American-made energy, improves conservation and efficiency, and promotes renewable and alternative energy technologies. However, the Majority in Congress is failing to understand the gravity of the current energy crisis since they refuse to bring to the floor, or even allow a debate on, energy legislation that would lower the price at the pump. The Speaker is failing to see that millions of Americans are being crushed by the skyrocketing cost of oil. From the senior citizen who has been cut from the Meals on Wheels service to the children who have to walk to school because the bus can no longer afford to pick them up, gas prices are inflicting a horrific burden on this country.

I, along with my Republican colleagues, have introduced legislative solution after solution. We have also filed five discharge petitions in an attempt to force a vote on these pieces of legislation. But, the Democratic leadership continues to forbid even discussion about increasing the production and supply of American-made energy. This week, I introduced the American Energy Act, which is a comprehensive energy bill that includes conserving more, drilling in America, bringing online additional refineries, and developing all viable alternative fuel sources. Despite all of our attempts, the Democratic leadership has chosen to rename post offices and congratulate sports teams.

The time for talk has long passed. If Speaker Pelosi refuses to listen to her colleagues in Congress, maybe she will listen to the American people. I urge residents of the 29th District or call, fax, or mail their gas receipts to Speaker Pelosi. Maybe this will send her the message that this country can no longer afford to wait."
